PROJECT 01
Geometry & Form:
"Architectural Design & Elements"
Introduce fundamental understanding of architectural language from principles, elements to creating a 2D tattoo stamp and 3D model.
Task 01
Develop three different elements model with the combination of 1 principle and 1 model with the combination of 2/3 elements.
Chosen: Planes, Lines, and Points using the principle of Rhythm
Task 02
Develop a mixture of two or three principles based on the first task to create a single, 100mm x 100mm final model.
Task 03
Create four tattoo stamps at a 1:1 scale using hatching techniques to demonstrate the depth and tonal values based on the four generated models, which are top, elevation, section, and plan view.
PROJECT 02
Structure & Body:
"Materials, Anthropometric & Ergonomic Exploration "
Explores using principles and elements from Project 1 to translate the architectural design into space. Delivers a comprehension of ergonomics and anthropometry for actual human scale.
Task 01
Based on the final model that was selected through several test models, built up a bamboo structure on a human scale with multiple functions. Our group has been selected for the purpose of Viewing. We integrated the sitting area, laying on bench area, and storage area. The bamboo structure has to be in 8m^3.
Roof:A structure without too much coverage on the roof was the main concern because the usual roofing that is commonly built was fully covered, then we discovered the method of chaotic weaving by using different sizes of bamboo strips to slot inside a big frame. By having the roof which promotes natural curves to it, blends into the space just like it was meant to be there.
Sitting area:We were advised by our tutor Ms. Rai, that we must not design a piece of furniture into the structure, but design it blending into the whole structure, where different area serves a different purpose. The bench was connected to the roof piece, and another was a diamond-shaped chair, that has weaving on the back that it is comfortable to sit on.
Storage:The purpose of designing a storage area is because when they want to rest after planting, they may have a handful of planting tools that needs a place to put. The concept of twirling bone structure is more interesting than just having a straight one. There were two small platforms for them to put phones and small things, the bottom part is large storage for any tools.
DESIGN CONCEPT:
At first, we wanted the structure to be suiting into the space which is green and trees surrounding it. The user's requirements were having a couple of seating areas and a more open structure.
Task 02
Based on the Bamboo structure that was built, the group has to draw out A2-size presentation boards. Including orthographic drawings in the scale of 1:10, an exploded axonometric drawing in the scale of 1:10 / 1:20, a minimum of 3 joinery details in the scale of 1:5. Lastly each member has to draw an abstract tattoo stamps in the size of 100mm x 100mm.
PROJECT 03
Space & Sensory:
"Self-Exploration through Spaces "
Interpreting a narrative story into spaces with the understanding of the five senses. Create sensorial experiences for the users.
DESIGN NARRATIVE:
I have taken the word view as looking backwards at the past as a victim of bullying. When you were being bullied, it was a depressing and dark period, but there was one person who stood up for you and helped you get through it. You quickly come to the realisation that you need to change in order to become a better version of yourself.
DESIGN EXPLORATION:
First of all, I have created 3 spaces: fear, comfort, and transformation. Different characteristics of the spaces were created with the understanding of the five senses.
By having different spaces, there must be an architectural style for the space. I researched several architectural styles that fit the language of the structure; Brutalist and Post-Modern architectural style was chosen.
ANTHROPOMETRIC & ERGONOMICS:
I have included several body action for different spaces;
-
crawling, bent down and climbing was involved in the 1st space,
-
sitting down, crouching involved in the 2nd space,
-
stepping up stairs was involved in the 3rd space.
BUBBLE DIAGRAM:
The three spaces were allocate with the flow. The entrance is at 1st space and connecting through 2nd space where there's an exit resembling giving up and moving on the 3rd space.
Task 01
Develop a series of a narrative story and interpret them into 2-3 spaces, using the architectural language that has been learned throughout Projects 1 & 2. Research through different materials, anthropometry and ergonomics used in the space.
Task 02
Produce a model with the scale of 1:10 which the actual building should be 20m^3.
Task 03
Based on the model, draw out four A1-sized presentation board that concludes orthographic drawings ( 2 elevations, 1 section, and 2 floor plans), one exploded axonometric. one abstract perspective drawing of sensual experience of users, two architectural details in the scale of 1:5 and four tattoo stamps resembling different spaces.
Reflection
I learned a lot and acquired experience over the semester, especially in regard to my comprehension of architectural language. It was a really enjoyable experience. Through various modules, I also get to meet new people, and they make stressful projects more enjoyable. Moving on, I want to express my gratitude to my tutor, Ms. Chong Sue May, and Ms. Raihana, who always patiently offer comments and practical solutions to our issues.
